If you wish to point a domain that you have to another domain name or subdomain, one way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By setting up such a record, the domain name being pointed loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the domain name it is forwarded to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some provider that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be pointed to the site which you have set up, but it'll also appear in the web browser address bar at all times. Some other possible uses of a CNAME record are to redirect all of the targeted traffic from various subdomains to their main domain name, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by setting up a CNAME record for a subdomain since this type of a record created for the main domain name makes it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Hosting

Creating a CNAME record using our Linux cloud packages is very simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP has a section devoted to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can create a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted inside your account in a couple of easy steps. You can find a video tutorial inside the same section in which you can see the process first-hand. This feature will give you various opportunities - if you set up a company website on our end, for example, the employees can use their e-mails with the company domain name, not with the address of our mail server. If you want to set up an Internet site using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain name hosted here and use it for the site. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you can create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your visitors will be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

If you have a semi-dedicated server through our company and you want to set up a CNAME record, it will require only a couple of clicks to complete this task. The plans are handled via our in-house built Hepsia hosting CP where you will discover a section dedicated to the DNS records of the domain addresses and subdomains hosted in the account. To create a CNAME record, you will only have to select the record type and the hostname (domain or subdomain), type in where the latter will be redirected to and save the change. The new record will be active almost right away in our system and will propagate worldwide within several hours. Editing or deleting an existing CNAME record inside the account is equally easy and takes a click.
